working equipment. The antenna should be installed in a high, no shaded place. Such as roof,
but the top should be open. In order to achieve better effect, you can keep the elevation above
15 degrees without shielding.
Antennas are useless if install indoor. GPS satellite signal is too week to be received. Trees or
plastic awning above the antenna may have a little effect on the signal. But other shielding may
have a big impact on it. In fact, a book on the antenna can completely block the satellite signal.
Antenna should be installed lower than lightning rods or other structures that attract lightning
strike. And 10 to 15 meters away from them. GPS antenna itself is rarely struck by lightning. It
is often damaged by the strong induced electric field that caused by the surrounding
buildings(lightning rods, towers, etc.)being hit. Lightning arrester can be installed on the cable.
The arrester should be installed on where the cable enters the wall so that it is easily and well
grounded. The lightning arrester is installed between the feeder line and equipment and leads
from the lightning arrester to the earth pole. The grounding resistance of the ground pole
should be below 4 ohms. And must be firmly connected to ensure reliable discharge when
struck by lightning. After the antenna is connected to the cable, it shall be fixed together with
the bracket or wall through at least two hoops.
